Jim Wickstead received his U.S. Customs Broker's license in 1986. He worked in his family business in the customs, consulting, freight forwarding and warehouse arena and with several multi-national forwarding and brokerage firms for over 30 years before moving to the manufacturing sector as a global corporate trade compliance leader. Mr. Wickstead consulted with companies concerning their trade related issues, including value, classification, admissibility, free trade agreements (NAFTA, GSP, 9802, etc), bonded warehouses and foreign trade zones and in numerous export related projects including licensing, reporting, and ITAR. He has extensive experience in dealing with agencies concerning audits, penalties, petitions, rulings and in the setting up of processes and procedures with numerous trade programs. His representative services include interactions with agencies such as Customs and Border Protection, State Department, Bureau of Industry and Security, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Industry and Security and State Department, to name a few.

 

Mr. Wickstead has been involved in various audits in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Japan, China, Germany and United Kingdom. He has successfully resolved all audits with customs and revenue agencies and in the creation and implementation of corrective improvement plans for importers and exporters. He has also performed audits, reviews, and risk assessments for international traders.

 

Several programs were implemented by Mr. Wickstead to create cost avoidance and duty recovery opportunities, increasing efficiencies and adding additional working capital for corporate managers. A trainer and teacher in the industry, Mr. Wickstead has taught classes in trade-related subjects such as classification, NAFTA, binding rulings, audit and in audit preparedness. He has also taught in continuing education courses and in college and university sponsored classes.
